Mercy Iowa
City and its medical staff offer a variety of digestive services
to patients of all ages-including diagnosis, intervention, therapy,
nursing care, and rehabilitation.
Many of Mercy's
digestive services are provided through the Endoscopy Unit by gastroenterologists
and general surgeons. This unit provides diagnostic "scope"
procedures of the digestive system and lungs for both inpatients
and outpatients. These procedures are done using IV conscious sedation
and/or local anesthesia. They include:
- Upper Endoscopy
- ERCP
- Flexible
Sigmoidoscopy and Colonoscopy
- Ambulatory
pH Manometry
- Liver Biopsy
- PEG Placement/Removal
- Esophageal
Motility
Most patient
visits are complete in about three hours, including 30-45 minutes
for the procedure itself.
Endoscopic
procedures requiring general anesthesia are done in the Surgery
Department.
Nutrition counseling,
provided by registered dietitians, can be an important aid for people
living with digestive disorders. For more information, talk with
