Today begins a new chapter at Mercy Iowa City, as physicians, allied health colleagues, employees and volunteers welcome Sean Williams to his first day as President and CEO.

Williams comes to Mercy Iowa City after previously serving as CEO of Mercy Medical Center – Clinton, for the past eight years. He has also held a variety of leadership positions in other organizations, including serving St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as CEO of Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa, Iowa.

In announcing his hiring earlier this year, the board of directors of Mercy Health Network and Mercy Iowa City reiterated their confidence in Sean’s ability and commitment to successfully lead the organization well into the future.

"Sean has made significant contributions to Mercy Health Network and to the excellence of our Clinton ministry," said Bob Ritz, CEO of Mercy Health Network. "With his proven track record of leadership and deep understanding of our values and mission, we are confident his talents will accelerate efforts to reach new levels of service to the Mercy Iowa City community."

With two decades of health care leadership experience, Sean has demonstrated success in fostering a culture of innovation and exceptional patient care with an emphasis on quality, safety and clinical operations.

"I’m excited to work in partnership with the talented physicians and colleagues who make Mercy Iowa City a great organization," said Williams. "Together, we will continue the commitment to excellence and further the vision for improving the health of the community and each person we serve."

Sean’s role as President and CEO at Mercy Iowa City includes executive leadership and oversight of Mercy’s not-for-profit Catholic hospital, 28 primary and specialty care clinics, and close work with affiliated organizations including Progressive Rehabilitation Associates, Iowa City Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) and Corridor Radiology.
