Tuesday, July 31, 2018 - Mercy Iowa City Named a 100 Great Community Hospital
Mercy Iowa City has been named a 100 Great Community Hospital by Becker’s Review. The national list includes independent community hospitals as well as facilities affiliated with large health systems. Many of the hospitals have been recognized for their clinical quality, operational excellence and economic impact on the surrounding areas. For the purposes of this list, Becker's defines a community hospital as a facility with no more than 550 beds. "This honor is a recognition of the excellent medical staff, wonderful employees and continuing dedication of our entire team," said Sean Williams, President and CEO.

About Mercy Iowa City, Becker’s said that it draws patients from throughout southeast Iowa, is the only hospital in Iowa to receive the 2018 Joint Replacement Excellence Award from Healthgrades, to have achieved a five-star rating from CMS in both 2017 and 2018, an "A" rating from Leapfrog, and in May was awarded the Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.

The Becker's editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on several outside rankings and ratings organizations, including IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals, iVantage Health Analytics and The Chartis Center for Rural Health's Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals, CareChex ratings, Leapfrog Group grades, Healthgrades awards and CMS stars, among other considerations.
