Mercy Iowa City COVID-19 Vaccine Update
Mercy
Iowa City is actively preparing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine both from
Pfizer and Moderna, however there will not be enough for everyone to get it
right away.
Mercy
Iowa City will begin to administer the vaccine and prioritize its health care
providers, based on recommendations from the CDC. The National Institutes of
Health has identified groups at the top of list also include residents of
long-term care facilities, essential workers, high risk populations including
older adults and people with underlying medical conditions. We anticipate vaccines
may be more widely available by spring or summer 2021.
As
more vaccine doses become available, we will work with our community partners to
ensure everyone who wants a vaccine can receive it. We will provide
additional information to our patients and the community as it becomes
available. Mercy Iowa City knows it will receive a limited number of
vaccines to distribute in phases, in accordance with guidelines from IDPH and
the CDC.
To
learn more about COVID-19 vaccines, view the MercyOne COVID-19 Vaccine Frequently Asked Questions or
visit the CDC or FDA websites.
Mercy
Iowa City continues to promote and follow current safety measures until the
vaccine is more broadly available. People who are vaccinated must also stay
committed to CDC safety guidelines until there is widespread vaccination.
