Mercy Iowa City earns five-star rating from CMS for fifth consecutive year
Mercy
Iowa City has received a five-star
rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for the fifth
consecutive year, making it the only hospital in the state of Iowa to have
earned this recognition for five straight years. Mercy Iowa City is also the
only hospital in Johnson County and southeast Iowa to receive this
commendation.
The
CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star rating measures five areas of quality into a
rating for each hospital, using analytical data ranging from safety of care to
patient experience. Rankings are given on a scale of one to five, with five
being the highest and three being the national average.
“This
five-star recognition solidifies Mercy Iowa City as the leader for the highest
quality care in our community,” said Sean Williams, President and CEO of Mercy
Iowa City. “Mercy strives on providing the best patient experience and
personalized care. Considering this past year has brought unprecedented
challenges for all hospitals with the COVID-19 pandemic, to once again earn the
highest honor from CMS is a commendation to the providers, nurses and all
colleagues that put the Mercy Mission first.”
CMS
contracted with CORE to work in collaborating with other contractors to develop
a methodology for the Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating on Hospital
Compare, now Care Compare. Care Compare includes information on
quality measures for more than 4,000 acute care and critical access hospitals,
reflecting the hospital’s overall performance on selected quality measures.
Mercy
Iowa City will announce additional awards on Tuesday, May 11 and Wednesday, May
12 that further recognize the hospital with high national honors.
