This is an American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS renewal class.  This course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and/or other cardiovascular emergencies.  The goal of ACLS is to improve outcomes for adult patients of cardiac arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies through early recognition and interventions by high-performance teams.

In order to attend this class you MUST:
  • have a current AHA or Military Training Network[MTN] ACLS card/date (i.e. recommended renewal date is not past)
  • If you are unsure please check Health Stream (it would be listed in your profile under resuscitation cards)
  • If it is not in Health Stream you MUST send a copy of your card to kimberly.pattee@mercyic.org at least 3 days prior to class
You can NOT attend if:
  • your card is not from the AHA or MTN
  • your recommended renewal date has passed (you have to retake the entire course at your own cost)
You must complete REQUIRED pre-course work.  Details are in the confirmation email you will receive.

What this course does not teach
The course does not teach algorithms, ECG rhythm recognition or pharmacology.  Each participant, regardless of their role, is responsible for knowing all of these components and must be able to function as a team leader.  If you do not learn and understand these prior to the class it is unlikely you can successfully complete the renewal session.

Continuing Education Credit:
No continuing education credit [CEU or CME] is given by Mercy Iowa City for renewals.
The AHA awards CEH's for qualifying EMS providers.  Information will be provided at the course.

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all AHA courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the AHA.
