A message from Tom Clancy to Mercy Iowa City Employees

Monday, August 7, 2023 - A message from Tom Clancy to Mercy Iowa City Employees

Monday, August 7, 2023

Dear Medical Staff and Employees of Mercy Iowa City,

I have some very important information to share regarding the future of Mercy Iowa City. We have signed a Letter of Intent with the University of Iowa on a plan where the University will acquire substantially all the operating facilities and key assets of Mercy, preserving the continuity of care for our patients, and continuing opportunities for physicians and employees.

However, to implement the plan, Mercy Iowa City filed a voluntary petition under Chapter 11 of the U.S.  Bankruptcy Code in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Northern District of Iowa.

Please take a moment to review this short video regarding the announcement.  Video

This news release provides additional details.

I recognize that you likely have many questions.  I am committed to sharing with you fact-based, timely information and that is why we have scheduled Town Hall Meetings for Wednesday. Both today and Tuesday we will be focused on the initial court proceedings and will have more details by Wednesday.

In the coming days, you may receive questions from friends and family members who care about you and Mercy Iowa City. I want you to let them know that we are continuing to see patients and care for our community. If they have specific questions about the court proceedings encourage them to read the news release and court filings posted on our website.

If the media contacts you, please let them know you are not a hospital spokesperson and direct them to Kristie Bell, kbell@thinkwixted.com, 515-988-8913, who is handling media inquiries.

We are committed to communicating with you at each step along the way, and we ask for your patience and grace as we move through this process.

The past few years have been incredibly challenging, and this plan offers us a pathway to continue providing care to Iowa City and beyond. Thank you, in advance, for your understanding and support.
