Wednesday, February 15, 2017 - Mercy Wound & Vein Center recognized with national award

The Wound and Vein Center at Mercy Iowa City has been recognized with a national award for clinical excellence.

The Center of Distinction Award was given to Mercy Wound and Vein Center by Healogics, the nation’s leading and largest wound care management company.

Mercy Wound and Vein Center achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for 12 consecutive months, including patient satisfaction higher than 92 percent, and a wound healing rate of at least 91 percent in less than 31 median days.

"Mercy Iowa City’s Wound and Vein Center has continued to increase services and capacity to serve more and more patients since opening in 2011," said Mike Heinrich, Interim President and CEO. "In the last year alone, the Center served more than 800 new patients with extraordinary success, improving their quality of life and helping them return to their normal activities."

The Wound Care Center® is a member of the Healogics network of nearly 800 Centers, with access to benchmarking data and proven experience treating approximately 2.5 million chronic wounds. Mercy’s Wound and Vein Center offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. Some of the leading-edge treatments offered at the Wound Care Center include negative pressure wound therapy, debridement, application of cellular-based tissue or skin substitutes to the wound, offloading or total contact casts, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and vein ablations.

"Our providers include seven physicians and a very strong team of talented and dedicated clinicians," said Gagan Kamal, MD, Medical Director of the Wound Center. "Our goal every day is to help patients return quickly to a healthy and pain-free condition by treating wounds that have resisted other forms of treatment. This recognition is a testament to our team members."
