Cancer Care

Mercy's cancer care program takes an approach that meets medical, physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs. Compassionate and personal care is provided by a team of highly skilled physicians and health care professionals.

Mercy's oncology program has been recognized by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons as offering high-quality cancer care. Only one in four hospitals that treat cancer receive this special approval, which recognizes Mercy's comprehensive patient care. Mercy has held this accreditation since 1992.

Imaging and Endoscopic Services Diagnostic services provided in collaboration with the referring/primary care physician include:

  • All-digital mammography suite
  • Stereotactic breast biopsy
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and breast coil MRI

Home Care Options
Through Mercy Home Care, nursing and other services can be continued at home after discharge from the hospital. Mercy's staff can assist with many dimensions of care, including:

Nutrition Counseling
Mercy dietitians provide individual assistance with nutritional assessments, special dietary instructions, and basic nutritional counseling. learn more

Pathology Services
Mercy offers both routine and specialized pathology services for cancer diagnoses. Immunoperoxidase staining is an example of a specialized technique; it is used to identify estrogen receptors in breast cancers. Fine needle aspiration is also performed by Mercy pathologists on palpable masses-that is, masses located under soft tissue that can be located by touch.

Rehabilitation Services
Physical, occupational and speech therapy are provided through Progressive Rehabilitation Associates, LLC Phone 354-2429.. Enterostomal nursing therapy is also available.

Social Services
Mercy Social Workers are available to assist patients and families with a variety of issues. Services are also available to assist people who are under insured or patients with needs such as food and housing.
