What is an OHCA – Organized Health Care Arrangement?
An Organized Health Care Arrangement (OHCA) is an organized system of health care in which more than one covered entity participates in the arrangement and in which the participating covered entities hold themselves out to the public as participating in a joint arrangement:
- A clinical and operational integrated care setting among legally separate covered entities
- Allows Individuals who receive health care from more than one health care provider to be shared when both are part of the OHCA
- Allows health care providers to share protected health information for the joint management and operations of the arrangement
- Allows the health care providers to use the OHCA arrangement to share protected health information among themselves for joint activities
- Participants are exempt for having Business Associate Agreements with each other for service contracts that involve PHI disclosure
